We had some very special campers earn some very special awards this summer! Going beyond ribbon awards and fun awards created by counselors. These campers had their names recorded in the history of Foley for earning awards like The Voyager award and the Buoy award that require great dedication and patience over several years of camp to achieve.
Silver Paddle Award
Second session we had two incredibly motivated campers earn their Silver Paddle Awards! Ellie Ottem and Carson Cherveny became the 48th and 49th recipients of this prestigious award. In order to receive this award, campers must earn a high level of achievement in a variety of activity areas, as well as show high levels of leadership, a dedication to the mission of Foley, and be a positive role model throughout camp. Here is what both Carson and Ellie did to earn their awards…
Ellie is the 14th girl to earn the Silver Paddle award. To get the award she completed her Bowman Sharpshooter in Archery, Basic Canoeing, Target Shooter 4 in Riflery, Seaman in Sailing, Shark in Swimming, Advanced Beginner in Tennis, Board Award in Windsurfing, Biner in Climbing, Basic Foil in Fencing, and Muskrat in Snorkeling. She also had to take a minimum of 6 periods each of Fishing, Nature, and Arts/Crafts/Shop. Finally, Ellie had to get her DNR Boat and Water Safety Certification. In order to receive his award, Carson completed the following: Bowman Sharp Shooter in Archery, Basic Canoeing, Seaman in Sailing, Advanced Beginner in Tennis, Board Award in Windsurfing, Advanced Waterski Award, Biner in Climbing, Springboard in Diving, Basic Foil in Fencing and Muskrat in Snorkeling. He also had to take a minimum of 6 periods in each Fishing, Arts/Crafts/Shop, Guitar/Photography/Videography, and Nature.
Silver Birchbark Award
We had another very dedicated camper, who earned another prestigious award third session. Oliver Hayes earned his Silver Birchbark Award, which is given to campers who complete 1/2 of the requirements necessary for the Silver or Gold Paddle. Oliver was so close to receiving his Silver Paddle Award, as he was only one award away of completing the requirements. However, the Silver Birchbark award is still quite the accomplishment. Way to go, Oliver!
Buoy Award
The Buoy Award has become one of the more popular awards in recent years, and it takes lots of hard work and determination to receive. In order to earn the Buoy Award, campers must earn a Ribbon Award in every activity where they are offered. This summer we had four campers earn their Buoy Awards. They all had to earn an award in the following activity areas: Archery, Biking, Campcraft, Canoeing, Climbing, Diving, Fencing, Riflery, Sailing, Snorkeling, Swimming, Tennis, Waterskiing, Wakeboarding, and Windsurfing. Congratulations to our 2021 Buoy Award winners Reis Cherveny, Ventura Martinez del Rio, Fer Moreno, and Meghan Krayer!
